BLINKYtm
2011
A young boy living in the near future looks for an escape from a home with arguing parents. As a way to cope with the recent arguments from his parents he receives a robot companion that he ends up abusing. Starring Max Records (I Am Not A Serial Killer) and directed by Ruairi Robinson. Produced by Nick Ryan and Marshall Rawlings.
Blinky was shot in 2009 in the suburbs of Granada Hills in north Los Angeles. We were so lucky to get the incredible Max Records who had just completed shooting Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are, who magnificently played opposite Joe Childs wearing a dustbin for the shoot – later to be replaced by Ruairi’s stunning CGI psychopathic robot Blinky.
When Nick started producing I Am Not A Serial Killer for Billy O’Brien the following year, there was only one person in mind who could play the title role, although he was too young at the time, Max. The vagaries of film production are so many that by the time came to shoot that film, Max was the perfect age to play the lead.
